SeenON! Guest Blogger: Meeting Candace Bushnell

Last week while attending a summer 2008 makeup preview event for Cover Girl makeup, I was asked if I wanted to meet Candace Bushnell the following week. I don’t know too many women who would say “no” to such an invitation … so on Wednesday, June 25 2008, I put on my makeup, got dressed in my designer suit, put on my Italian patent leather peep toe flats, grabbed my Italian handbag and made my way to the Bata Shoe Museum to meet the author of the most successful female TV series and the most popular female comedy movie. The venue was quite fitting for a woman whose TV series turned an underground designer into an international phenomenon. It’s true that Manolo Blahnik had an already successful career before he started being featured on Sex and the City, but Carrie Bradshaw’s obsession catapulted him to shoe-design-superstardom.

The event brought out pretty much all beauty and fashion editors in the city and the room was packed with well dressed women (and a few men) eagerly waiting to meet Candace Bushnell.

In an time where many young starlets experiment with their look, even bordering on the obscene, there are some stars like Emmy Rossum who manage to be a model of style and grace. This was evident when she showed up at the 3.1 Phillip Lim boutique opening party in a golden sleeveless draped dress by the designer, accented by a black ruffle belt by Elegantly Waisted and knotted peep-toe heels. We love that this ensemble would work for a corporate function and an after-party with friends without missing a beat!

Although we love seeing Blake in costume for Gossip Girl, we love it even more when we can see her style off the set. That's why we love this shot of her wearing a summery look in the Tory Burch Palm Print Tory Tunic. This jazzy number with it's mandarin collar with split front neck and side slits is perfect worn with jeans as a blouse, over a swimsuit as a cover-up, and shown here as a minidress. Pair with gold gladiator sandals and you're good to go!

In a super comfy-looking Juicy Couture ensemble, she has all the makings of a perfect summer outfit - shades and all. And we're digging her bag - it's by super-hip French designer Isabel Marant. It's not available online, so we've brought you a (pretty convincing, we must say) lookalike from Anthropologie. We guess it's probably a LOT more affordable, too.

Season one of Tim Gunn’s Guide to Style might be over, but thanks to re-runs there are still many great beauty tricks to learn from the older episodes. I have to be honest and state that I absolutely love Tim Gunn’s show! I personally think that every single woman should actually watch the show because there is so much to learn.

I was recently watching an episode where Tim and his co-host Veronica Webb transform Karen Vito from a woman who dressed with little elegance into a sophisticated 41-year old mother of one.

Other than the fact that Karen was still trying to recapture, or should I say hold on to her youth, by dressing with clothes that is one or two sizes two small, she also had is all wrong when it came to makeup and hair style.

It’s funny because for the first half of the show Karen was so concerned with not being transformed into an “old lady”, but she didn’t understand that her clothing options and her makeup were making her look dated.

Last night SeenON! was invited to the launch of artist and guest of honor Karim Rashid’s latest work for Veuve Clicquot at the W Hotel. Given Rashid’s other great bodies of work and our love of bubbly and fun, we were happy to oblige!

Sponsored by San Francisco’s 7x7 magazine, this event unveiled Rashid’s Globalight Champagne Cooler for Veuve Clicquot. Globalight is said to be a “Modern reinterpretation of the traditional French chandelier” and only 500 pieces were created worldwide. The portable cooler keeps your bubbly chilled for 4 hours and has a built in LED light that shines a rosy hue over the bottle until the bottle is at proper temperature.

The party also featured Rashid’s Veuve Clicquot Loveseat . Not only is it a beautiful piece of furniture, but it also includes a built in champagne ice bucket (A perfect blend of fashion and functionality!).
